What is a Gastric Balloon?

October 25, 2021 / By Nihat.Gulaydin-2021 / Posted in Gastric Balloon

Intragastric balloon is a soft silicone ball that is placed in the stomach endoscopically, partially filling the stomach and creating a feeling of fullness and fullness that facilitates compliance with the nutritional diet. The biggest advantage of using a gastric balloon is that it limits the amount of food we eat and prevents overeating.

The procedure is performed under anesthesia, and first the stomach is examined with an enoscope. If there is no pathology in the stomach that prevents the insertion of a balloon, a gastric balloon is inserted. The 6-month-old or preferably 1-year-old balloon is sent orally into the stomach and inflated with 400-600 cc of serum colored with methylene blue. After the balloon gains its volume, it is separated from the tube in which it was sent and the two tubes are removed back from the stomach tube.

The advantage of 12-month balloons is that they can remain in place for a long time and are adjustable. This means that the balloon can be inflated or deflated a little more under anesthesia if desired.
